DESCRIPTION

The Reconciling Ministries Group is made up of LGBTQ+ folks and allies who seek to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community within and outside of the church, to create an affirming community within our congregation for LGBTQ+ folks and their families, and to engage in education around LGBTQ+ issues while making space for conversation.

Answer: Everyone is required to have LGBTQ-specific training.


Question: How often do you believe your leadership, human resources, employees, or volunteers utilize LGBTQ-specific training or educational content each year?

Answer: Once per person


Question: Do you feel that your policies and procedures cover LGBTQ-specific needs for all of your employees, staff, and volunteers?

Answer: We have worked directly with an LGBTQ+ organization to create our policies and procedures.

Answer: We have year-round shows of support that are specifically affirming or positive for the LGBTQ+ community.

Question: What type of non-profit organization do you represent? Briefly describe your mission.

Answer: We are a group within the Leesburg United Methodist Church of Leesburg, Virginia. We are committed to intersectional justice across and beyond the United Methodist connection, working for the full participation of all LGBTQ+ people throughout the life and leadership of the Church.


Question: Do you have any LGBTQ+ board members? Include any information, if possible, about how they represent LGBTQ+ issues in your organization.

Answer: We are part of the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN) organization (https://rmnetwork.org/), which seeks to include LGBTQ+ members at all levels of leadership and participation.


Question: Do you supply any training materials to individuals in your organization, or outside of your organization? If so, what do those materials entail?

Answer: We have a number of resources from the RMN (https://rmnetwork.org/resource-full-library/) as well as specific printed covenant we were required to review as we formed our group.


Question: How do you make your organization a safe and affirming place for LGBTQ+ people to be?

Answer: Welcoming and affirming LGBTQ+ people is the mission of our organization. We seek to be visible to LGBTQ+ members and prospective members of our church, to engage in welcoming conversation, to work within the church organization to promote equality for LGBTQ+ clergy and laity, and to serve in as many ways as we can the LGBTQ+ members of our larger community.
